Economy of Netrakona

Unlike the neighboring Mymensingh District, which profited for a long time from being the capital of a big  compound District, thus enjoying funds and investments from the central government, there are still no signs of industrialization in Netrakona. One can estimate that about 85% of the total population in Netrakona District work in the primary sector and 15% are engaged in the secondary and tertiary sector.   Many people who studied at university or college claim that after graduation, they have little choice but to work for the government or NGOs. Hereby, later ones are second 14choice because they don’t provide the security and the pension of a government job. Working for an NGO thus sometimes acts as an intermediate occupation until a government job is available. All this shows that there are virtually no jobs for graduates from university or college in the private sector.
